Actuarial Analyst


We are seeking to engage an Actuarial Analyst to practise their skills in a Federal Government setting. The role will require the capability to work efficiently within a fast-paced team.

You will be using longitudinal data and predictive analytics, the team is working collaboratively with external consultants and the Australian Government Actuary to analyse and interpret actuarial results to support evidence-based policy development.

Note: Due to nature of work, you MUST be an Australian Citizen to be considered for these requirements.

The Role:
The successful candidates will undertake a range of responsibilities, under limited supervision, including:

  • Formulating methods and assumptions
  • Preparing data and developing detailed spreadsheets
  • Developing computer programs in SAS and Python
  • Performing qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Developing a suite of interactive dashboards for policy areas to gain insights
  • Preparing technical briefings and reports; and
  • Developing, validating and maintaining complex actuarial models

Candidates with skills in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to use one of the well-adopted specialist software packages (SAS, R, Python or other closely related programming languages) for data analytics or modelling purposes. 
  • A capacity to contribute to wider strategies and initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to communicate results of data analytics into meaningful and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
  • A tertiary degree with a major in actuarial studies, statistics, mathematics, finance, computer science, or a closely related discipline which includes a substantial mathematics component.
