Our Federal Government client are seeking a skilled Netwrok Engineer to join the BAU team. This role involves deploying, managing, and maintaining a range of networking and cybersecurity technologies, including Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco networking solutions. You will collaborate closely with various teams, particularly those involved in network modernisation projects and digital research infrastructure initiatives.

About the Team

This Team is responsible for enabling and securing digital research environments by providing well-managed, scalable, and sustainable computing infrastructure. The team focuses on provisioning innovative centralised digital infrastructure and services while ensuring robust security controls and compliance.

Project Overview

The role will support a project focused on introducing additional network segmentation and security controls, along with the deployment of new network switch hardware. You will contribute to both project-based activities and business-as-usual (BAU) operations related to network security and infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deploy, and configure networking and cybersecurity systems, including next-generation firewall (NGFW) technologies to enhance cybersecurity threat detection and response capabilities.
• Provide expert advice and configure networking equipment to strengthen network security posture.
• Assist in the deployment and configuration of new network switch hardware as part of network modernisation projects.
• Support network segmentation initiatives to improve security and operational efficiency.
• Work within the business-as-usual (BAU) network operations team to maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure and security services.

• Cisco Routing and Switching (including NAC and 802.1x)
• Designing and implementing Cisco network solutions
• Configuring and supporting Cisco network equipment, including routers and switches
• Physical installation of routers and switches
• Configuring firewalls, routing, and switching
• Next-generation firewall technologies (Palo Alto) and ruleset reviews
• Fault diagnosis and resolution

• Estimated Start Date: April 2025
• Initial Contract Duration: 12 months
• Location: SA, VIC
• Working Arrangements: Full-time onsite. The workplace is a high-security environment where Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) such as mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches, and other devices with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or 4/5G capabilities are not permitted inside the building.
• Security Clearance: Must hold a current Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2)
