Systems Engineers (Integration and Test)

We are seeking 2 x experienced Systems Engineers (Integration and Test) to be responsible for the day-to-day onsite execution of the Integration and Test (I&T) activities required for the coordination and implementation of systems engineering for a large defence communication project. This spans systems, subsystems, products and external interfaces, and may include requirements, design and verification artefacts.
  
Close collaboration will be required with the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team who will be partially remote from the work location. You should have a strong understanding of System Engineering principles, lifecycles, ability to work successfully with defence stakeholders, and capability to identify risks and resolve issues in a working environment with limited support.
  
The activities involve internal and external project stakeholders across Australia and the United States to enable successful integration of software, hardware, facilities and services with a high level of technical assurance and quality within schedule constraints.
  
As a Senior Engineer, you will be expected to perform complex, novel engineering tasks, potentially lead other engineers and technical staff, participate as a member of the broader engineering cohort – including attending both internal and external working groups as required. Chartered Engineering status (CPEng) with Engineers Australia in a relevant area of practice is desirable but not essential, however there is an expectation that all you will be working towards achieving or maintaining CPEng.

Also on offer is relocation support, housing allowance and a remote location allowance for these roles with expatriate flights once a year back home. You must be Australian Citizen and need to live and be based in Exmouth (FIFO is not supported for these roles).

  
You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a collaborative approach and positive relationship with the SEIT team and other engineers and DARC program staff and contractors at the Australian DARC site as a strong team player;
  • Performing SEIT tasking to support system construction, integration, verification and validation, and to manage system safety, including inspections and site meeting coverage;
  • Maintaining requirements baselines and managing changes using software tools such as DOORS and Cameo.
  • Supporting the development and management of product baselines in preparation for operation and maintenance activities.
  • Supporting software and hardware integration and test including subsystem and system level interfaces and integration and test of Configuration Items (CIs);
  • Gathering/documenting Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) for feedback into DOORs (or other authorized tools) maintaining traceability to requirements;
  • Reviewing functional and physical configuration, and perform system acceptance audits;
  • Reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and System Functions, including validation of technical orders and training;
  • Supporting system maintenance activities, including performing system maintenance as authorized;
  • Perform other engineering tasks as directed, including providing engineering support to other projects and capture activities including:
  • o Writing engineering and analysis papers and reports;
  • o Developing, reviewing and approving designs and design artefacts (including test procedures, test cases, analysis papers, design documentation, etc) within authorized delegations;
  • o Prepare Basis of Estimates for technical activities;
  • o Review and/or contribute to technical and gate reviews (internal and external);
  • o Contribute to the review, development, and revision of procedures and work instructions;
  • o Collaborating with other team members to achieve outcomes;
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

The Must Haves:

  • Knowledge and working experience of requirements management tools, especially DOORs
  • Experience in the conduct of Systems Engineering for Projects
  • Experience in requirements capture, validation and traceability for compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or in remote environments
  • Experience working in a Defence complex project environments
  • Leadership experience in a project engineering  or technical role
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or in remote environments
