Freedom of Information Processing Officer – EL 1

  • Labour hire contract for 3 months with scope for extension
  • Baseline Security Clearance required
  • Open to considering flexible and remote working arrangements

About the role
Our Federal Government client is seeking a Freedom of Information Processing Officer at the EL 1 level to join their Information Law Team.


  • Processing all aspects of Freedom of Information requests from initial access requests to reviews
  • Supporting relevant Minister’s Offices in relation to their Freedom of Information obligations
  • Generating practical guidance and governance material to ensure the department meets its relevant obligations
  • Identifying and managing FOI related risks within the department, in conjunction with the Principal Legal Counsel

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working across a range of FOI request matters (including personal and non-personal requests)
  • Settling routine and moderately complex FOI advice and documents
  • Quality checking the work of junior FOI Officers, including providing an appropriate level of guidance to staff
  • Support and assist the Principal Legal Counsel in managing the team 
  • Make appropriate judgements about when advice needs to be second counselled at the PLC level, or FOI matters should be raised with the PLC

This opportunity is within the Australian Public Service.  In order to be considered, please note that candidates must be an Australian Citizen at time of application. The successful candidate must hold a Baseline Security Clearance at time of application.
While Canberra-based, the Agency is open to considering flexible and remote working arrangements, subject to the agreement of the supervising manager.
