Enginer – Safety and Quality Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer – Safety & Quality (SESQ) to be responsible for supporting the execution of the Integration and Test (I&T) activities required to support delivery of the Deep Space Advanced Radar (DARC) capability. This spans systems, subsystems, products and external interfaces, and may include requirements, design and verification artefacts. The role will have a particular focus on Safety Engineering and quality.
  
Close collaboration will be required with the US deployed team, as well as other members of the delivery team who will be working remotely from the site. You should understand system engineering principles and have previous experience with software development and testing, radiofrequency (RF) radiation safety and associated testing and ideally facilities and associated safe design and management. Previous experience involved in engineering sensors and control systems will also be of benefit. The role will require the ability to work as part of a small team with limited onsite support to think innovatively, identify risks and resolve issues.
  
The activities involve internal and external project stakeholders across Australia and the United States to enable successful integration of software, hardware, facilities and services with a high level of technical assurance and quality within schedule constraints.
  
This position is required to participate fully in all aspects of health, safety, environmental and quality management, including job risk assessment, hazard and incident reporting.

On offer is relocation support, housing allowance and a remote location allowance for these roles with expatriate flights once a year back home.  You must be Australian Citizens and need to live and be based in Exmouth (FIFO is not supported for this role).  
  
You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the on-site Systems Engineer Integration and Test (SEIT) team, with a particular focus on system safety engineering and quality;
  • Support the SEIT to prepare for and action functional configuration and system acceptance audits, as well as physical configuration and safety-focused inspections and audits;
  • Support on-site RF safety surveys, tests, measurements, audits, and associated analysis;
  • Performing System Safety Hazard Assessments
  • Attending System Safety Working Group meetings as the on-site safety engineer
  • Attending site meetings, with a particular focus on system safety engineering and quality assurance;
  • Ensuring safety and quality related risks and issues are reported through the SEIT to the NGA DARC program manager
  • Maintaining awareness of System Safety Program or Management plans, Hazard Log and any mitigation actions that impact system integration and testing, and alerting the SEIT as applicable;
  • Assisting the SEIT with maintaining DARC requirements, Objective Quality Evidence and traceability within the DOORS tool;
  • Supporting software and hardware I&T verification including subsystem and system level interfaces and integration and factory test of Configured Items (CIs);
  • Reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and System Functions, including validation of technical orders and training, with a particular focus on safety management.
  • Liaising with DARC senior engineers and Head Office Safety Engineering SME for technical expertise, guidance, mentoring and support;
  • Maintaining involvement in the System Safety Community of Practice
  • Assist and led as required defence radiation safety manual (DRSM) compliance onsite activities, inclusive of training, and measurements required under the local RF Radiation Safety Office (RFRSO)
  • Any other duties as reasonably required (this could include activities such as fire warden, first aid support, escorting visitors, meeting secretarial duties, logistics support, etc).
