Section Responsibilities
  
Our client is dynamic and high paced department that provides business support to manage the regulation of medical devices. Support services include external communication, branch coordination, secretariat management, workforce planning and implementation, medical device reforms coordination and responses to medical device enquiries. They evaluate medical devices, including in vitro diagnostic tests and monitors them throughout their lifecycle to ensure they continue to meet an appropriate level of quality, safety and performance.
  
Areas of Responsibility
  
The APS 6 Communications Officer supports the medical device branches engagement with both traditional and new stakeholders. The role includes producing high quality written material, translating complex content into easy-to-understand products, coordinating and tracking engagements, and proactively identifying trends and opportunities to respond effectively.
  
Key duties  

  • Support the development and implementation of the forward work plan of external communications for the medical devices branches
  • Support the maintenance of the medical device Reforms website, including content and structure
  • Support the strategic approach for stakeholders engagement across medical devices
  • Maintain a database of presentations and attendance reports
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and business processes based on departmental requirements and the Quality Management System
  • Other agreed communications, project/program management or engagement duties.

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
  
Required skills:  

  • Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical scientific information into plain English
  • The ability to think strategically to proactively identify trends and opportunities to respond effectively
  • Commitment to quality and strong attention to detail in all aspects of work
  • The ability to develop high quality written material
  • Demonstrated strong coordination skills
  • The ability to represent the Department through engagement with a variety for stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Acrobat

APS 4 Communications Officer
  
Areas of Responsibility
  
The APS 4 Communications Officer assists with writing and publishing a range of materials including web content and presentations. This involves proofing content and drafting web publishing requests.
  
Key duties  

  • Undertake procedural, clerical, administrative support or operational tasks.
  • Review and quality assure products for external audiences.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and business processes based on departmental requirements and the Quality Management System.
  • Assist in the delivery of projects under the direction of higher classification levels.

Desired skills:   

  • Knowledge of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989, the Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002 and other legislative instruments and guidelines
  • Experience in, or ability to quickly acquire skills with TRIM and GovTeams
  • Strong written communications skills, including editing
  • Experience working within a communications team. Experience in, or ability to quickly acquire skills with TRIM and web publishing, especially Drupal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
