Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Manager and/or Senior Professional to provide leadership to the their Community and Peer Program Family stream.

The position entails providing leadership and guidance to a team of regionally based Family Peer Workers. This position additionally oversees the work of a small team delivering projects to strengthen and expand the Family Peer capability within the broader Community and Peer Program, and other support options provided to families by our client. 
The role involves using one’s lived experience to respectfully educate and advise; influencing change with both internal and external stakeholders to improve understandings of military service, the needs of consumers, families, and carers, and of recovery-oriented, person centred and trauma informed care.
The Assistant Director, Community and Peer Program – Families also plays a key role in representing our client and the Community and Peer Program Nationally.

  • Identify as a person with lived experience of military family life and of mental health recovery (which may include as a relative/carer of a Veteran with a history of mental health issues) for the purposes of leading program development, service improvement and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Take a lead role in informing the continuous improvement of service delivery for families of current and ex-serving ADF personnel including through research, design, implementation, and evaluation of family-focused projects and with a dedicated focus on the expansion and improvement of the program. 
  • Provide lived experience advisory input including through membership of key governance committees and advisory forums, and through representing the Department
  • Oversee and contribute to the development of advice, briefings, papers, submissions, and correspondence for use in both internal and external decision-making forums.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and coaching for direct reports to effectively manage performance and encourage professional growth.

The role is up until 30th June 2022 with the possibility of a further 12-month extension.

The ideal candidate will be highly experienced in leading teams; brings skills and experience in the implementation of programs, projects, practice change or continuous improvement agendas; strong demonstrated capacity to engage strategically with stakeholders from a range of personal and professional backgrounds; possesses well-developed writing and oral presentation skills; and has experience writing policies and guidelines.   
This position also requires eligibility and a willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check or equivalent.
Highly Desirable  

  • Previous experience providing support in the mental health sector.
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in mental health (e.g., Certificate IV in Mental Health, Peer Work).
  • Previous experience in mental health peer work.
  • Leadership of a lived experience or peer workforce.
